Some are hurting, angry, and anxious about the outcome. Fearful that the worst things said during the campaign season will come true.
Others are happy, hopeful, and optimistic. Hopeful that new leadership will bring needed change to our nation.
We confess that each of us has contributed to the division that exists in our nation through silence when we should have spoken, and by speaking when we should have remained silent.
Help us now to contribute to the healing of our nation that we may truly be “one nation under God, with liberty and justice for all.”
While we acknowledge that there will always be disagreement among us about what is best for our nation, we pray that you would help us come together as a people.
Calm the anger of those whose candidate lost the election that anger and protest may not give way to violence.
Calm the pride of those whose candidate won that pride may not lead to arrogance and hatred toward others.
We thank you for Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and her life of service to our nation. Ease the pain of her loss for her and for all who supported and voted for her.
And, we thank you for President-Elect Donald Trump and his willingness to give this season of his life to public service. We ask that your hand would be upon him and that you would prepare his heart and mind for the challenges he will face as our president. Enable him to serve with justice and mercy for all people, that our nation may be an earthly reflection of your eternal Kingdom.
All this we ask in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, who taught us to pray….
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
